Why won’t my laptop stay connected to Wi-Fi?

< 1 min read

Here are a few tips to help ensure your laptop stays connected to wifi:

  1. Check the distance between the laptop and router, or the wireless access point
if using a wifi network at work, school or public hot spots.

  2. Move the laptop closer to the router.

  3. Check the settings on the laptop wireless adapter and router. Make sure the wireless is
enabled and the SSID (network name) is correct.

  4. Run a ping command to see if the laptop can communicate with the router and other
    devices on the network.

  5. Restart the laptop and router. Turning off the laptop, router, and any other wireless devices,
waiting a minute and then turning them back on can sometimes resolve an issue.

  6. Check that the wireless network is secure. If it is, make sure the laptop is set up correctly
to use the correct password to join.
