Why is OneDrive showing duplicate versions of the same file?

In order to find out why OneDrive is displaying duplicate versions of the same file:

  1. Check if you are signed in to a different Microsoft account or cloud services
  2. Understand the differences between file versions and if changes were made to the original file
  3. Check computer's file synchronisation settings of OneDrive to see if multiple copies are being stored locally
  4. Examine the OneDrive folder location of the file and investigate if the file has been saved or moved multiple times
