Why is my WiFi signal weak?

< 1 min read

  1. Check the signal strength of your router
Check your router to make sure the signal is strong. If your router is gaining a weak signal from the modem or is not placing out a sufficiently strong signal to cover your entire home or office, then you may need to move it to a more central location.

  2. Reduce interferences
Common sources of interference include microwaves, power lines, other routers, wireless phones, and bluetooth devices. Moving the router to an area in your home or office away from these devices can help reduce issues.

  3. Choose right channel
Some routers can automatically change channels when interference is detected, but you can manually try changing channels to one not occupied by another network or device.

  4. Check for firmware update
Check to see if there is a firmware update available for your router. Firmware updates may help fix certain bugs, or provide features for higher-efficiency performance.

  5. Replace router
If your router is very old or out of date, then it may be time to replace. Newer routers can broadcast higher speeds, may have additional features, and may have stronger signal than older routers.
