Why is my PowerPoint presentation opening in read-only mode?

< 1 min read

Before addressing the issue, below are some possible causes and a few suggested steps for resolving the issue:

  1. Check the PowerPoint document’s file properties to make sure that the document has not been opened as read-only.
    • To do so, right click on the file, select Properties, and under the General tab, look for the Attributes field – if Read-Only is checked, uncheck it and save the file.

  2. Make sure the file does not have any restricted permissions that prevent you from opening or editing the file.

  3. Ensure you have the appropriate version of Office and the necessary permissions to open and edit the file.

  4. Save the file in a new location on your computer (e.g. Desktop, Documents folder).
