- Unplug the laptop from power
- Remove the battery and set aside
- Check for signs of visible damage such as discolored areas, cracks, or corrosion on the laptop
- Dry the laptop completely with a clean cloth or towel
- Replace the battery and plug in the laptop
- Restart the laptop
- Check the settings for the touchpad/trackpad in the settings menu of the laptop
- If settings are at default, calibrate the touchpad/trackpad using instructions from the laptop’s manufacturer
- Check the laptop’s touchpad/trackpad for proper functionality
