- Check for any dust buildup in the laptop's fans and vents. This could be the cause of the fan running loudly. Use a can of compressed air to blow dust out, or an antistatic brush attachment for a vacuum cleaner.
- Monitor your laptop’s temperature to make sure the fans are not running because of overheating. If the temperature is high, the fan is running to cool the laptop down. Download a temperature monitoring program to check.
- Review your laptop’s power settings to make sure the fan is not running needlessly. If the power settings are set to work too hard, the laptop may try to keep itself cooler, causing the fan to run more than necessary.
- Check the fan itself for obvious damage. If the fan spins erratically or does not spin at all, it may need to be replaced.
