Why is my laptop’s DVD drive not working?

< 1 min read

  1. Check connections. Make sure the power and data connections are securely plugged in.

  2. Try other discs. Use a different disc to test if the drive is working properly.

  3. Clean or replace the disc. Wipe disc off with a microfiber cloth to remove any dirt or debris.

  4. Check the laptop’s System Settings. In Device Manager, the DVD should be visible. If it’s not, it might need to be reinstalled.

  5. Check the internal drive. Make sure the internal drive is operational, as another device could be overriding it.

  6. Restart the laptop. Restart to see if this helps to repair any issues.

  7. Replace the drive. If none of the above steps work, you may need to replace the drive.
