Why is my computer overheating and shutting down?

< 1 min read

What steps can I take to help my computer run cooler?

  1. Clean the dust and dirt from the fan grills and keyboard to ensure air can circulate freely.
  2. Check the laptop for any possible obstructions from other peripherals that may block fan vents.
  3. Check the internal fans. If they’ve become clogged with dust, then they can’t move as much air to cool the computer.
  4. Check the battery settings and disable High Performance mode.
  5. Check the Power settings and select Maximum Battery Life.
  6. Check the Performance settings and switch to Balanced.
  7. Check the Laptop Dock settings and disable any unnecessary features.
  8. Uninstall unnecessary programs.
  9. Reduce the graphics resolution and display brightness.
  10. Ensure proper ventilation and air intake is allowed.
  11. Lay the notebook flat so that air can flow freely.
