Why is my computer not recognizing my USB drive?

  1. Check the USB port
    See if the USB drive is properly and securely plugged into the USB port.
  2. Check Windows Device Manager
    Go to the Device Manager, located in the Control Panel, and explore for the USB drive in the list.
  3. Check the Task Manager
    Determine if the device is indicated in the application.
  4. Check the File Explorer
    Make sure to check the File Explorer to see if the device is listed in the list.
  5. Restart the Computer
    Reboot your computer.
  6. Scan for Hardware Changes
    Select the Scan for Hardware Changes option, if available, and then click it to detect any changes.
