- Verify the drive in Device Manager
In the Windows search bar, type Device Manager, and select it from the list. Locate the CD/DVD drive, and verify that it appears in Device Manager. If not, you should consult your device's manufacturer to verify that the drive is correctly installed and registered properly.
- Check for faulty cables
Faulty or loose cables can cause a number of connection issue. Check to make sure the cables are undamaged and securely connected to both the device and the computer.
- Check that the system recognizes a disc
You can check to see if the system recognizes a disc, by inserting one. If a disc is inserted and the CD/DVD drive processes it, the system is configuration correctly.
- Confirm that any drivers are up to date
Visit your computer’s manufacturer’s website to confirm that all drivers are up to date. Out of date drivers can cause a number of disruptions to system performance.
- Uninstall and reinstall the Device Manager driver
If all the previous steps fail, you can uninstall the device manager driver for the CD/DVD drive and reinstall it. This can often resolve the issue.
