Why is my Active Directory domain controller not responding to requests?

< 1 min read

  1. Check Server Status – Make sure the server is powered on and check the connection is established, by running the ping command on the server’s IP address.

  2. Check Firewall Settings – Check the server’s firewall settings to make sure the appropriate ports are open for Domain Name System (DNS) requests.

  3. Check Name Resolution – Use the nslookup utility to check the server name is properly resolving to the IP address.

  4. Check Zone Settings – Verify the server’s zone settings in the DNS Manager console.

  5. Check Logs – Review the error logs in the DNS Manager console and Event Viewer to look for clues about why the server is not responding.
