Why does my internet keep dropping out?

< 1 min read

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can take to help resolve intermittent internet connection issues:

  1. Restart your modem and/or router

Unplug the power cord from the back of the modem and remove any batteries. Wait at least 30 seconds and then reinsert the batteries and plug the power cord back in. Wait two minutes for the modem to connect to the Internet.

  2. Power cycle your computer

Shut down your computer and then turn it back on. Wait for it to reconnect to the Internet.

  3. Check for service outages

Check for any local service outages that your Internet service provider may be having. If there is an outage, wait until service is restored.

  4. Update the Wi-Fi adapter

If you are connected to the Internet with a Wi-Fi adapter, make sure it is up to date with the latest drivers. If it is not, update it.

  5. Check other devices on the network

Check to see if other devices on your network are able to connect to the Internet. If they can, it may be a device or computer-specific issue.
