Why did I suddenly receive multiple credit cards in the mail that I didn’t apply for?

< 1 min read

It is important to take the following steps if you suspect fraudulent activity with credit cards you didn’t apply for.

  1. Immediately contact your bank: If possible, call. Otherwise, use secure email or the bank’s online chat function.

  2. Review your credit report: Request and review your credit report. Look for any unfamiliar accounts or other suspicious activity.

  3. File a report with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC): The FTC offers resources for Victims of Identity Theft, including an identity theft affidavit for reporting a case to law enforcement agencies.

  4. Consider placing a Fraud Alert on your credit report: Contact the three major credit reporting bureaus (Equifax, Experian, and Transunion) and ask them to put a fraud alert on your credit account.
