Why are some of my incoming emails marked as read when I have not opened them?

  1. Check your email settings

    Review your email settings and see if there are any that are set to automatically mark emails as ‘read’.

  2. Filter your email messages

    Create filters for your emails to direct specific emails from specific contacts into a particular folder.

  3. Check your email client

    Make sure that your email client is configured to leave emails marked as ‘unread’ when you open them.

  4. Check your email security software

    Ensure that any anti-virus and anti-spam software installed on your computer or email account is set to not automatically mark emails as ‘read’.
