Why are my emails not being marked as read when I open them?

  1. Check your email settings to ensure that your inbox is set to automatically mark messages as read when they are opened.
  2. Check whether the conversation thread been marked as read previously and if so whether it is set to overwrite that flag when you open it.
  3. Confirm that your email client is installed properly and up to date.
  4. Check that you don’t have preview mode set to on, which leaves your messages as unread in your inbox.
  5. If all else fails, try using an alternate mail program.
