- Check your email settings to ensure that your inbox is set to automatically mark messages as read when they are opened.
- Check whether the conversation thread been marked as read previously and if so whether it is set to overwrite that flag when you open it.
- Confirm that your email client is installed properly and up to date.
- Check that you don’t have preview mode set to on, which leaves your messages as unread in your inbox.
- If all else fails, try using an alternate mail program.
