Why am I receiving spam emails from my own email address?

< 1 min read

No matter how diligent we may be in monitoring our email habits, we can all be victims of email spoofing. Receiving spam emails from your own email address can be disconcerting and annoying. Here are a few steps to take to deal with this issue:

  1. Check your sent items – Make sure that emails are not being sent from your email address without your knowledge. Check both Sent Items and Sent Messages to be sure.
  2. Make sure your computer is secure – Make sure you have anti-virus software installed on your computer that is updated with the latest security patches. Spoofing typically occurs when a computer has malicious software installed.
  3. Change your password – If you suspect that your email account is hacked, change your password immediately.
  4. Check your email settings – Head to your email settings and look for forwarding options. Make sure that there are not forwarding rules set up that would forward emails to random addresses.
