1. Ensure the server is joined to the correct domain
2. Install Active Directory domain services
3. Verify the supported domain/forest functional level
4. Check for pre-existing domain controllers with the same name

6. Test connectivity to other domain controllers
7. Run the Active Directory Domain service promtion wizard
