Why am I not able to enable an Active Directory user account?

< 1 min read

  1. Check whether the user account is disabled or locked out. There are situations where the account is disabled or locked out due to incorrect credentials being entered multiple times within a specific time period. It could be possible that an incorrect password was entered.

Check the security settings to verify that the account is not locked out or disabled.

  2. Check the user’s group membership. It could be the the user is not member of appropriate security group required to gain access to the network resources.

Verify that the user belongs to the right group and that the group has rights to access the required resources.

  3. Ensure the user has rights to log on locally. Confirm that the user has rights to sign on locally to the network. This setting must be configured for any user to be able to logon to the network.

Check the local security policy in the Active Directory to ensure the user has the required rights.
