What should I do if my computer is infected with malware?

< 1 min read

  1. Keep all your software up to date and enable the automatic update feature, if your system has it.
  2. Install anti-malware software on your system, if it does not already have one.
  3. Regularly back up your important files, such as documents, music, photos, etc.
  4. If you suspect an infection, scan your computer with the latest version of your malware software.
  5. If you believe that your computer is highly infected, consider removing your hard drive and any removable media such as DVDs, CDs, and USB sticks from the system and installing a fresh copy of your operating software.
  6. When connected to the internet, make sure to practice safe-surfing habits such as not visiting the websites with questionable content, regularly scanning files with virus-checking software before opening them, avoiding suspicious emails and potential hoaxes.
