What is malware scanning and how often should I do it?

< 1 min read

Malware scanning is the process of scanning and analyzing digital objects (e.g. files and applications) to identify and block malicious software. Depending upon the frequency of usage, the amount of data hosted, and the level of risk posed, malware scans should be done regularly-at least every month-in order to detect and prevent security incidents.

To ensure digital security, it is recommended to:

  1. Keep all software updated to the latest version.
  2. Delete any unnecessary files, applications, or plugins to maintain a clean system.
  3. Install a trusted anti-malware and anti-virus software and configure it to perform regular scans.
  4. Monitor and audit system logs and network communication to detect suspicious activity.
  5. Ensure firewall is appropriately configured to prevent access from untrusted sources.
  6. Use secure protocols to store and share data (e.g. acs keys, passwords).
