If you have accidentally deleted an important email, it is important to react quickly. Follow these steps to try and recover the email:
- Check the
Deleted Items
folder to see if the deleted email was placed in this folder. This step can only be done if the email was not completely purged from your account. - If the email is not in the
Deleted Items
folder, determine the email address from which the email was sent. You may find this information in the email's thread history or other sources. - If the email is from a non-Gmail account, reach out to the sender and ask them to send a new copy of the email. Be sure to explain the situation.
- If the email was sent from a Gmail account, try to reach out to the sender using the
Google Chat
feature. Again, explain the situation and ask them to resend the email. - If neither of these steps yield the desired results, contact your IT department and explain the issue. With the right tools, IT professionals may be able to help recover the deleted email.
