How do I fix a water damaged phone?

1 min read

There are several steps you can take to help fix a water damaged phone:

  1. Turn the phone off – Water and electronics don’t mix, so when water and a device meet, it’s important to turn it off immediately
  2. Dry it off – When you take your device out of the water, the first and most important step is to pat it and then wipe it dry using a cloth, 2017 May suggests
  3. Unscrew the back cover – Removing the back case of the device will allow air to circulate around it, which will help air it out and dry it quickly. Also, remove the battery and SIM cards, if possible
  4. Use a vacuum cleaner – You can use a vacuum cleaner to suck out any remaining liquid or water vapor that might be sitting in the ports or other nooks and crannies of the device
  5. Use a dryer and rice – You can also use a hair dryer to help dry your device and then put it in a bowl of uncooked rice to absorb any remaining moisture for up to five days.
  6. Reassemble the device and test it out – Once the device is dry, we recommend to reassemble it and perform a complete power-on test of your device before using it.
