- Check the Disc for Damage and Defects
Examine the disc to make sure that it has no rips, gouges, cracks, or warping that could prevent it from spinning in the drive. - Clean the Disc
Wipe the disc off with a soft cloth dampened with water. Do not use any type of chemical cleaner. - Insert the Disc Correctly
Make sure that the disc is inserted into the drive with the correct orientation and label-side up. - Uninstall and Reinstall the Device Driver
Uninstall the disc-drive device driver from the system’s Device Manager and then let the system automatically reinstall it as part of the normal Windows start-up process. - Clean the Drive
Clean the disc-drive head with a specialized CD/DVD cleaning disc.
