How do I fix a broken or unresponsive power cord on my laptop?

< 1 min read

  1. Identify the source of the issue: Determine what type of power cord you have and ensure it is correctly plugged into both the laptop and the wall outlet. If the issue is with the power cord itself, steps 2-4 will help fix the issue.
  2. Clean the prongs and connectors: Use a cotton swab dampened with rubbing alcohol and gently scrub each of the prongs and connectors on both laptop end and wall end of the cord to ensure they are free of dirt and debris.
  3. Test the connections: Push the prongs and connectors firmly together to ensure a proper and secure connection. Additionally, if the power cord has been twisted or bent, try to straighten it out.
  4. Replacement: If these steps do not fix the issue, it’s likely that the power cord needs to be replaced. Make sure to double check that the replacement cord is compatible with your laptop model.
