How do I enable or disable password complexity requirements in Active Directory?

To enable or disable password complexity requirements in an Active Directory environment, you should do the following:


  1. Open the Group Policy Management Console (GPMC).
  2. Navigate to the Organizational Unit (OU) used to control password complexity settings.
  3. In the right pane of the GPMC, select the password policy which you wish to modify.
  4. Select the Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings.
  5. Select Account Policies > Password Policy.
  6. Enable or disable the policy option that enforces complexity requirement.
  7. Click OK to save your configuration changes.
