How do I connect my laptop to a TV?

< 1 min read

  1. Check the ports on your laptop.
Take a look at what type of ports are available on your laptop. The main connections you need to look out for are either an HDMI port, DisplayPort, or a DVI/VGA port.
  2. Check the ports on your TV.
See what ports your TV has. If both your laptop and your TV have the same type of port, read on. Otherwise you might need an adapter.
  3. Connect the two devices using the appropriate cable.
Most modern TVs should have an HDMI port, so try using an HDMI cable for the best quality. If both devices have a DVI port, you might need a DVI-to-HDMI cable.
  4. Set your TV to the correct source.
Once the cable is connected, set your TV input source to the port you plugged the cable into (e.g. HDMI or Video 1).
  5. Configure the laptop display settings.
When the TV is set as the preferred display, adjust the laptop screen resolution to match that of the TV. If you select the wrong resolution, the image on your TV won't display correctly.
