How do I check if my router is functioning properly?

< 1 min read

  1. Check the Internet connection
Make sure that the router is hooked up to the internet and the indicator lights marked Active, Status, or similar are on.

  2. Check the lights
See if the lights marked Ready or Receive, Send, or Transmit are lit.

  3. Check the cables
Make sure each insulation-coated cable is firmly connected to both the router and the device you are connecting to (like your computer).

  4. Restore the router to factory settings
If you can’t find a connection, try pressing the 'Reset' or 'Restore Factory Settings' button–usually located on the back of the router.

  5. Check the device's settings
Make sure the device you're trying to connect to is in its default setting, and is able to detect the WiFi.
