Here are the steps you can take to change your computer’s default web browser using the registry editor:

  1. Identify the default browser application path & GUID

  2. Open the registry editor & locate the set of keys for the browser you’d like to set as default

  3. Navigate to the inherent key, click Default, & make sure its value is set to the proper application value

  4. Create a new string value under the browser key you have selected

  5. Name the new string value Progid

  6. Set the value of the new string to one of the default application values corresponding to the browser you have chosen.
