Are my online banking transactions secure?
- Check your bank’s website. Look for a website security statement, or contact your bank’s customer service department if one is not available.
- Monitor your bank statements regularly. Make sure to check each transaction you make is correct and that no unknown transactions are listed.
- Ensure your Wi-Fi is secure. Avoid using public Wi-Fi networks for online banking if possible. Use a secure internet connection with up-to-date encryption.
- Install a firewall. Firewalls can help protect against threats from malicious websites, hackers, and viruses. Consider setting up antivirus software as well.
- Pick strong passwords. When setting up your online banking account, choose a strong password that is hard to guess.
- Be aware of scams. Do not disclose any confidential information such as your bank details or passwords. Never follow links sent to you in emails or SMS.
- Use two-factor authentication. Enable two-factor authentication, if your bank offers it, to add an extra layer of security to your online banking.
