Why is my printer not recognizing the correct ink or toner cartridge model?

  1. Check your printer model and your ink or toner cartridge model.
    Make sure you are trying to use the correct model for your printer type.
  2. Make sure the ink or toner cartridge is properly inserted.
    Check the user manual or support website for diagrams on how to properly insert the ink or toner cartridge.
  3. Check the contacts on the cartridge.
    Often times ink or toner cartridges have contacts that may have fallen off or come loose. Make sure the contact points are still unblemished and properly aligned with the printer.
  4. Try resetting your printer.
    This can be done by turning off your printer, unplugging it, and waiting 10 minutes to then plug it back in.
  5. Ensure that the protective tape has been removed from the cartridge.
    Many ink or toner cartridges come with a protective tape or plastic that needs to be removed before use.
