Why is my printer not printing at all despite being connected and turned on?

1 min read

  1. Check the physical connection
    – Ensuring the printer and the computer are connected properly and securely
  2. Check to make sure the printer is turned on
    – It may seem obvious but checking to make sure the printer is turned on and the power cord is fully plugged into a power source may resolve the issue.
  3. Verify Printer Status
    – On your computer, check the list of active print jobs in the queue. This will tell you if your print job is active or stuck. You can clear the active print queue by canceling all print jobs.
  4. Troubleshoot the printer
    – Perform a system restart of your printer. This unplugs and plugs the power cable back in, which powers your printer down and then back on, so it can reset any problems it encounters.
  5. Check drivers, ink, and maintenance
    – Make sure your printer driver is up to date and installed correctly. If it isn't, click here to get help. Also, verify that your printer has enough ink and is well maintained.
  6. Make sure you are using the correct type of paper
    – Make sure your paper size, type, and quality are set correctly. Even if your printer is designed for photographs, using basic 20 lb. printer paper is something to check.
