Why is my computer not booting past the BIOS screen?

< 1 min read

The following are a list of things to check if your computer is not booting past the BIOS screen:

  1. Verify power connections are secure- Ensure that the power supply is securely connected to the wall outlet or surge protector and that the cord is securely inserted into the back of the computer.

  2. Verify RAM is properly seated- Make sure your RAM module(s) is securely seated in it’s slot in the motherboard.

  3. Check the display- Check if the display is properly connected (video card and monitor cables). If possible try a different monitor to ensure it’s not a display problem.

  4. Check all the cables- Ensure all the cables connected to the motherboard and peripherals are secure.

  5. Check your drives- Make sure the SATA or IDE cables are properly connected and securely fastened/locked.

  6. Try a different power supply- If you have a spare, try to replace the power supply and see if the problem is solved.

  7. Check for BIOS Updates- Outdated BIOS can cause compatibility issues. Make sure your BIOS is up-to-date.
