How do I fix a stuck or unresponsive CD/DVD tray?

< 1 min read

Follow these steps to troubleshoot and fix a stuck CD/DVD tray:

  1. Check the Power: Make sure the drive is connected to the power supply.
  2. Try Ejecting with Keyboard Shortcut: Usually the Eject button on the keyboard will eject the drive.
  3. Check the Physical Eject Button: The CD/DVD tray should have a physical eject button close to the tray.
  4. Locate the Manual Release Hole: Find the manual release hole on the case and insert a paper clip. Wait for the tray to come out and be careful.
  5. Check Jumpers and Cables: If the tray is still stuck, check the jumpers and ribbon cables going out to the drive if possible.
