How do I troubleshoot a router that is constantly dropping connections?

< 1 min read

  1. Check hardware components: Inspect and test the router’s status lights, Ethernet and wireless connections, and power cords.

  2. Update firmware: Check the router manufacturer website to see if an available firmware update exists.

  3. Check for sources of interference: Look out for electronics that spread interference such as cordless phones, Bluetooth devices, and microwaves.

  4. Check cable connections: Make sure all cables are securely and properly connected.

  5. Separate devices by channels: Make sure each device connected to your router is operating on its own wireless channel.

  6. Change your encryption key: Change the encryption key that devices use to access your wireless network.
