< 1 min read

Check the USB cable

  1. Check that the USB cable is connected securely to your laptop and the mouse.
  2. If the USB cable is not connected securely, unplug the USB cable and re-connect it.
  3. Check Device Manager to ensure the mouse drivers are installed correctly:
    • Press ⌘+R and type devmgmt.msc.
    • Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    • Verify there is an entry for your mouse.
  4. If the mouse is not listed, reinstall the drivers.
  5. Try a different USB port, if possible.
  6. Check the power settings, if using a wireless mouse:
    • Right-click on the battery icon > Power Options.
    • Select Change Plan Settings next to the selected plan.
    • Select Change advanced power settings.
    • Expand Hardware > Devices.
    • Make sure Allow the computer to turn off this device is enabled.
  7. Test the mouse on a different computer.
