How do I clean my laptop’s keyboard?
- Step 1: Unplug your laptop. This is important for two reasons: safety and moisture control.
- Step 2: Power down and remove the battery. Your laptop may have a removable battery. If this is the case, remove it with care and put aside.
- Step 3: Use compressed air. This is an important tool used to dislodge debris and dust from the hardest corners and crannies of your laptop’s keyboard.
- Step 4: Use a cotton swab. Dip the swab in rubbing alcohol, and make sure the swab is damp. Use the swab to clean hard-to-reach areas of the laptop keyboard.
- Step 5: Wipe the laptop’s keyboard. Wet a towel or soft tissue with warm water and, working from left to right, gently wipe the laptop keyboard. This will remove residue, fingerprints, and smudges.
- Step 6: Dry the laptop keyboard. Wait at least 30 minutes to prevent moisture from seeping into your laptop’s components.
- Step 7: Replace the battery and power up. After you’ve cleaned your laptop’s keyboard, don’t forget to reinsert the battery before powering up.
