Why is my computer not recognizing my DVD or Blu-ray drive?

What list of things would I do?

1. Check to see if the drive is connected properly to the motherboard
2. Check if cables are loose
3. Reboot the computer to see if the drive is recognized
4. Make sure the device driver is up to date
5. Check the system BIOS to verify that the DVD or Blu-ray drive is set up properly
