How do I set up a VLAN on my business network?

< 1 min read

1. Determine VLAN needs and requirements

Consider the size, location, and type of devices that will need to be connected to the VLAN

2. Determine how and where to configure the VLAN

Will it be done through the router, a switch or a network management console?

3. Set up VLAN parameters

Identify the range and type of IP addresses that the VLAN will use, decide the type of subnet mask, prioritization, and gateways.

4. Choose a security protocol

Determine if you will use an access control list (ACL) or inline intrusion detection systems

5. Activate the VLAN

Turn on the VLAN once all the components have been configured.
