1. Determine VLAN needs and requirements
Consider the size, location, and type of devices that will need to be connected to the VLAN
2. Determine how and where to configure the VLANWill it be done through the router, a switch or a network management console?
3. Set up VLAN parametersIdentify the range and type of IP addresses that the VLAN will use, decide the type of subnet mask, prioritization, and gateways.
4. Choose a security protocolDetermine if you will use an access control list (ACL) or inline intrusion detection systems
5. Activate the VLANTurn on the VLAN once all the components have been configured.
